Designs for Andrew Yang

Honestly, I’ve never been too active in politics – but that changed after my brother introduced me to Andrew Yang!

He has over 150 policies on his website, his most popular one being the Freedom Dividend.

My family was so interested in Yang, that we drove to South Carolina to go to one of his events – and hearing him in person made us officially join the “Yang Gang”!

We met our local Yang Gang in December and have been active members ever since.

I have taken on many tasks since that event!

  • Created and manage the KnoxYangGang Snapchat account – I even created my first Snapchat filter!
  • Became an Admin for the Tennessee for Andrew Yang Facebook page – I had to earn that privilege through the National Andrew Yang Facebook Leaders by completing an assessment. I am one of a few admins for the Tennessee page. My main tasks are to create/manage the Tennessee events (then share them to the specific city’s Yang Gang group) and interview Yang Gang members to write/create Introduction posts.
  • Became a text banker – For those who don’t know what that is (I didn’t!), I help shoot out mass texts for Yang and then respond to anyone who responds to the texts. Yes, I sometimes encounter trolls! There is a guideline you follow for writing out responses (and some ready-made responses for FAQs), that way we all stick to the Yang brand. There was a training and quiz I had to complete in order to get this position.
  • Design banners/flyers/business cardsΒ etc. – There are plenty of Yang designs on the internet made by others, but I wanted to create my own!

If you’re local, you may have seen us on your way home from work – we have had two “Honk for Yang” events where we’ve stood on highway bridges during the rush hours to get Yang’s name out there!

I wanted to make them clean (not cluttered) and to the point – billboard style – since drivers may only be able to glance at them. I used Yang’s brand colors and font for both.

The MLK parade was a wonderful event for us because many of Andrew Yang’s policies were inspired by Dr. King.

Martin Luther King Jr advocated for a universal basic income, which is exactly what Andrew Yang’s “Freedom Dividend” is. I felt it was important to make this banner for the parade, so that we didn’t come off as just another political group marching for exposure. There are real connections between these two!

We (brother and I) also made business cards to pass out during the parade. This was my first time using a QR code maker! Marc had the concept/idea for the content of the card, while I created it for him. It is so satisfying to know that people at the parade got these and will hopefully scan the codes!
