Unfortunately, this year has been mostly uneventful and hasn’t gone the way I expected it to – but I finally have some good news to share!

I am officially a Media Marketing Generalist for Knox Pride!

For those unfamiliar with the organization, it is a nonprofit that plans LGBT+ friendly events in the city. They are known for their annual Pridefest that brings in large crowds each year. My family attended the Pridefest for the first time last year and had a blast!

As the Media Marketing Generalist, my main tasks are to help create social media posts and assist with the other marketing outlets.

Unfortunately the coronavirus has affected Knox Pride’s plans as well. All events have been cancelled for the rest of the year. But we are meeting virtually to plan to for the future and I am happy that I get to be a part of this great organization!

Honestly, I’ve never been too active in politics – but that changed after my brother introduced me to Andrew Yang!

He has over 150 policies on his website, his most popular one being the Freedom Dividend.

My family was so interested in Yang, that we drove to South Carolina to go to one of his events – and hearing him in person made us officially join the “Yang Gang”!

We met our local Yang Gang in December and have been active members ever since.

One of my goals for this summer was to complete a Google Analytics course;  mission accomplished!I completed the Google Analytics for Beginners course and plan to do more courses in the future too – like the Advanced Google Analytics course and the Google Marketing course. I will be sure to give an update each time I complete one!

While this entire blog’s purpose is to serve as a portfolio/resume, I thought it would be beneficial to create a single post that summarizes most of my experience visually.

The type of work I like to pursue is Content Creation, Content Writing, and Social Media Management. Below are some examples of my work that relate to these career paths.

This semester, I started my job as a designer for the school newspaper!

My main task is to lay out pages for the monthly print version of the newspaper, but I also get the opportunity to create graphics for stories that don’t have an image to go along with them.

It’s a very behind-the-scenes position, but I enjoy it very much and love seeing my work published!

My brother is an Apparel Design major and one of his assignments this semester was to change up the window display at our campus bookstore.

Above is the concept he came up with: a “sweater weather” theme, since his display is for mid November.

As you can see, my brother came up with the general poster design for his display – but he totally made my day when he asked if I could actually design the poster for him! Continue reading →

During my summer break, I got an email from my favorite professor telling me that he referred me for a practicum with the chair of the Media Arts Department! I really didn’t know what to say, mainly because I wasn’t sure what a practicum was, but I knew it had to be something special. And it is!

I get to write for the Media Arts Department’s website! It’s been really neat getting to discover what the other majors in my department are up to, and I’m so glad that I get to share their adventures with everyone. Oh and the chair is so nice and very insightful; I manage to learn something new every time I meet with him and I am grateful!

I’m glad I get to have to this experience, since being a content writer is one of the career paths I’d love to take.

On Thursday my house, the Global Learning Community, hosted an Indian cultural event and it was so much fun!

This was our first time hosting an event like this, and for a first try I’d say it went very well. The coordinators reached out to me and some other students who marked India as a country of interest on our housing application, and I was very happy they did! Continue reading →
